Mario Pitanguy is an internationally renowned sculptor, recognized for his expertise in portraiture and artistic excellence. His journey began at a young age, studying drawing and painting at the Sociedade Brasileira de Belas Artes (SBBA) before earning a degree in Visual Arts.
In 2010, Mario became the first Latin American sculptor to be part of the Portrait Sculptors Society of the Americas (PSSA), solidifying his place among the finest portrait sculptors in the world.
He studied artistic anatomy at Richard MacDonald Studios in San Francisco, USA, joined The Florence Academy of Art in Italy to refine his classical techniques. More recently, he specialized in human figure sculpture at Athens Studio in Greece and further honed his craft in Rome Art Residences. In 2019, he worked at StudioEIS in New York, the world’s leading studio for public monuments.

Mario further honed his classical sculpting skills through an art residency in Rome, studying under the guidance of Brian Booth Craig, where he deepened his mastery of human figure representation and advanced his technique in traditional sculpture.
He refined his expertise in human figure sculpture at the Athens Sculpture Atelier under the guidance of Robert Bodem, mastering classical sculpting techniques with a strong emphasis on anatomical precision and expressive realism.
In 2019, he worked at StudioEIS in New York, the world’s leading studio for public monuments, contributing in highly detailed, monumental sculptures for public spaces.
